Travel Journal - London 2024 - Day 5 -Wimbledon, Hand-pulled Chinese noodles & Fenchurch / Skygarden
Day 5:
- AM: Wimbledon - tour & museum
- Lunch: Hand-pulled noodles...SOOO GOOD!
- PM: Fenchurch Restaurant in the Skygarden
In the morning, I tubed out to Wimbledon for a tour of the courts & grounds, and to explore their museum. For a tennis fan like me, it was tremendous to see it all!
Court #1
Our other tour guide Peter! He was great to talk to, and had a ton of info about Wimbledon as well.
Then after the tour, I explored the Wimbledon museum, which is downstairs from the gift shop. It was fascinating! There's a great audio tour accompanying the tour that gives more details about each exhibit.
Part way through the museum, I found a photo-booth which was a TON of fun! You can select your favourite player to get a photo/video with! I chose a couple of my favourite current Canadian players.
And then the trophy room!!
And after all of that exploring, of course we must have some scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam!
This was in the cafe...so many tiny tennis racquets all over this ornate silver serving ware! |
After returning to Covent garden, I was peckish for some lunch. My friend Yrol had messaged me from Calgary about a new hand-pulled Chinese noodle place in Covent Garden that was getting amazing reviews. So I checked it out! It was VERY popular - ended up waiting for about 30 minutes to get a seat at the bar. But what a view it was! I got to watch the chefs make all the noodles right in front of me! And it was soooooo delicious!
While I was waiting in line, some amazing bus-art drove by! |
Then after lunch and a nap at my hotel, I walked down to Embankment Tube station and tubed over to the Skygarden & Fenchurch restaurant for a luxurious 5-course tasting-menu dinner, with cocktail-pairings for each course. One of the fanciest dinners I've ever had! And the view from the Skygarden at sunset was amazing (although a bit hard to see from behind all the plants etc.)
An amazing view from my table...just in time for the sunset. |
The menu! |
Then I took the tube back towards the hotel, and encountered OUTERNET ...AGAIN!! I love OUTERNET's displays.
And then to bed!! Tomorrow, a free day to explore London.
