In Memory of Leonard Nimoy
I was lucky enough to have met Leonard in April 2010 when he visited Calgary Canada for our local Comic & Entertainment expo. I was also very fortunate to have attended his "homecoming" which was held in Vulcan, Alberta, about 1 hour south of Calgary.
Leonard's homecoming celebration on April 23, 2010 was the day before the Comic Expo. Vulcan, normally a small town of about 1800 people, swelled to over 5000 fans and well-wishers! The town held a special parade in Leonard's honour, complete with a float "The U.S.S. Extendicare", a replica of the Enterprise built on the back of a pickup truck, constructed by the good folks from the local seniors' home.

After the parade, the town presented Leonard with the key to the town, and also dedicated a bronze statue of Mr. Spock, which included an imprint of Leonard's Vulcan salute in the bronze.

My dad always said "photos are better with PROPS!" So for my photo op at the Comic Expo, I came prepared with two tricorders, one for each of us. I asked Leonard if we could scan eachother with the tricorders for the photo. He very kindly obliged, and now I can say I was scanned by Mr. Spock!
Leonard, thank you for creating and sharing Mr. Spock with us, and for teaching us to be better human beings, and to be better to each other.
You lived long and prospered, and boldly went where no one had gone before. But now you have passed beyond the stars into the final frontier. May your next adventure in the great beyond be forever "fascinating"!
